2degrees Business Roaming While Travelling Overseas

Everything you need to know about Business Roaming while overseas.

With a no-fuss pricing structure, 2degrees Business Roaming helps you travel for work and keep business as usual while overseas.

Activate Roaming

  • When you arrive in your overseas destination and turn off flight mode on your phone and connect to a cellular network, you’ll receive a welcome text from us that will indicate whether you can access 2degrees roaming services.*
  • For most destinations, you don’t need to do anything else, but for destinations where you need to purchase a data Add-on, follow the instructions in the welcome text to enable data roaming.
  • Start roaming!

* Tablet or iPad users in Daily Business Roaming destinations will not receive a notification; roaming services will be activated upon turning off flight mode on your device. Tablet or iPad users in Business Roaming Add-On destinations will not automatically receive a text, and will need to insert the device’s SIM card into a mobile phone and text Y to 237 to get the data add-on.

Using Business Roaming

When you roam overseas and use your device, you will be charged business roaming rates based on which destination you’re in:

  • $0 Daily Business Roaming (Australia only);
  • $8 Daily Business Roaming;
  • $57 Business Roaming Add-On Destinations, or
  • Data Not Available Destinations.

There’s no need to swap SIM cards or worry about signing up with overseas networks and, although you may see the local telco's name on your phone instead of 2degrees, your phone number will not change. Colleagues and family in New Zealand can use your regular number to contact you wherever you are in the world.

To help you avoid unwanted costs, we'll automatically turn off your Voicemail when you head overseas. If you want to use Voicemail while overseas, please visit our Business Roaming FAQ page for more info.

When you land back in New Zealand, we'll automatically detect that you're home, and you'll return to your regular plan use.

Business Roaming Rates

$0 Daily Business Roaming Destination

In Australia you can use your NZ Plan allocation (Minutes, Texts, Data) at no extra cost. Add-ons, International Chat Pack, special rates, promotions and deals are not included and may incur additional charges.

International calling and text rates also apply for non-local Aussie/NZ use. Excludes calls or texts to satellite or premium rate numbers (including Australian external territories such as Norfolk Island).

$8 Daily Business Roaming Destinations

In the destinations listed below, you can use your NZ Plan allocation (Minutes, Texts and Data) for just $8 per day. Excludes calls or texts to premium rate or satellite numbers.

Add-ons, International Chat Pack, special rates, promotions and deals are not included and may incur additional charges on use overseas.

International calling and text rates also apply for non-local use.

If you run out of plan allocations, you can buy a NZ Add-on. For example, if you’re running low on data while roaming, you could buy a 1GB NZ Data Pack to top up.

For the destinations listed below, the following calling and text roaming rates apply:

  • $3.45 per minute to call anywhere in the world*
  • $1.15 per minute to receive any call
  • $0.91 a text sent to anywhere in the world*

*Does not include premium or satellite numbers.

To use roaming data in these destinations, you’ll need to purchase a 500MB Business Roaming Add-on for $57. You’ll be prompted to do this in the welcome text we send you when you arrive in your destination.

Destinations that are not listed above are not eligible for business roaming services with 2degrees.

Keep in control of how much data you use

Usage will vary depending on several factors including the device model, the device settings, network used and application settings.

We’ll send you a notification text if your data is low or has expired. If you're using an iPad or tablet, you won’t receive text alerts, so please remember to check your usage regularly online, or using the app.

You can check your balance of data or set limits to your total spend in the 2degrees Mobile App, or by logging in to Your 2degrees online.

Get help if you can’t connect overseas

If you are you in one of the destinations where 2degrees Daily Roaming is supported but have difficulties connecting to a network, we suggest trying the following:

  • Ensure that the handset has the network selection settings set to Automatic.
  • Action a hard reset of the mobile phone
  • Try the SIM in a different handset

If none of this helps, email us at roamingsupport@2degrees.nz and we’ll do our best to get things sorted as quickly as we can. In your email, please be sure to include the following information so that we can get to solving your issue sooner:

  • Your 2degrees mobile number
  • Name
  • Primary and alternate contact numbers
  • Contact email address
  • Current overseas destination you’re in including country, city and local address
  • Make and model of your smartphone
  • Brief description of the problem
  • Error message (if any)
  • Roaming network provider
  • Please specify if you’re having issues with making or receiving phone calls, sending or receiving text messages, or using data overseas
  • If your issue is with making phone calls, please send us a screenshot of the failed attempts (at least 2 examples). Please also mention the time zone and if possible, the name of the mobile service provider of the other person
